When Stroman held out this spring due to the Yankees suggesting he work as a reliever, he first entered spring training in 2025 with a chip on his shoulder and a message for the front office: «I'm a starter.»
The Yankees aren't in the business of waiting for rebound seasons. They're in the business of winning now. Stroman's leash simply ran out.
«I thought we would be able to work through our differences,» New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. «Unfortunately, we were two very different people with very different expectations of one another, and as far as his fit on the team, he wasn't very good, so I had to release him. Everybody tried their best, and that's all that matters.»
Former players and fans ridicule Marcus Stroman online after ridiculous goodbye post
Former Yankee great Gary Sheffield's son, Gary Sheffield Jr, posted online after news broke regarding Stroman stating that he thinks that the pitcher will post a video of him showing fans how rich he is and that he does not care about the release.
"I give it two hours before Marcus Stroman posts a video of him relaxing reminding us that he's rich and unbothered due to his release. He was better this year than we thought he would be for a short period there but we'll take it. Let's go win something."
True to what Sheffield said lounging on a private plane, watch gleaming, Stroman captioned it with a single word that said more than any statement could.
«Adios» was both defiant and final, a silent exit for a once-vocal presence whose Yankees dream faded into frustration.
Also true to form Stroman quickly deleted it from both platforms after getting ridiculed for it.
However a lot of fans screenshot it and re-posted it because Stroman is known for posting and then quickly deleting or blocking fans online.
It's poetic in a way. Stroman grew up a Yankees fan. But sometimes, the dream version of a story never quite matches reality.
