The Los Angeles Angels have announced that former Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Shaun Anderson has chosen to enter free agency.
On Tuesday, the Angels confirmed that Shaun Anderson, who had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, cleared waivers without being claimed.
The team subsequently outrighted him to Triple-A, but Anderson declined the assignment, exercising his right as a player who has previously been outrighted.
He and Jordan Romano will now pursue opportunities on the open market.

Anderson logged 16 2/3 innings out of the Angels’ bullpen this season but struggled in that role.
The 31-year-old allowed 13 runs (11 earned) on 17 hits and eight walks while striking out 12 batters. He also hit one batter and uncorked a wild pitch.
This marks parts of seven seasons at the major league level for Anderson, though his time in the big leagues has been intermittent.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Boston Red Sox, Anderson owns a career 6.35 ERA.
His strikeout rate sits at 16.7%, paired with an 8.8% walk rate—numbers that fall short of league averages.
While his slider and changeup have shown flashes of effectiveness in the past, his overall repertoire has not translated into consistent success in recent seasons.
Anderson did find some momentum overseas in 2023 with the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization.
He followed that with an impressive 2024 campaign in Triple-A, splitting time between the affiliates of the Texas Rangers and the Miami Marlins, where he posted a 3.00 ERA along with a 23.4% strikeout rate and a 5.9% walk rate.
However, his 2025 season proved challenging. Spending most of the year in the Angels’ Triple-A rotation, Anderson recorded a 6.02 ERA across 23 starts and one relief appearance.
Despite that rough stretch, his overall Triple-A track record remains more stable. Across 428 2/3 innings at that level, Anderson holds a 4.35 ERA, even when factoring in last season’s inflated 6.02 ERA over 116 2/3 innings.
