Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk continues to carve out a historic path for Mexican-born players, and now he's showcasing his talent on the international stage representing Mexico.
Team Mexico opened Spring Training exhibition play with a 6-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Alejandro Kirk played a key role on both sides of the ball.
Whether behind the plate or at bat, his impact was evident - something Blue Jays fans have grown accustomed to seeing in Toronto.
This is an awesome swing from Alejandro Kirk
Kirk's success in a Mexico uniform comes as no surprise. His elite contact ability and defensive presence have made him one of the premier catchers in the game.
Jorge Campillo, former MLB pitcher and current director of the Toros de Tijuana academy, who signed Kirk when he was just 14 years old, recently said Kirk is «making history for all of Mexico» and has become a «symbol of national pride.»
The 2025 season further cemented Kirk's legacy. His World Series home run marked the first ever by a Mexican-born player.
That same year, he became the first Mexican catcher to start an MLB All-Star Game.

Now, Kirk is expected to serve as a stabilizing force, a backbone for Mexico's pitching staff as they enter international competition.
He joins a talented roster that includes Randy Arozarena (Mariners), Jarren Duran (Red Sox), and his childhood friend Jonathan Aranda (Rays).
Kirk and Aranda share a deep-rooted history.
The two grew up in Tijuana, developing their games together through local youth leagues before eventually reaching the major leagues.
More than two decades later, their bond remains strong as they now represent their country on the same roster.
Kirk was unable to participate in the 2023 World Baseball Classic due to the birth of his child, which kept him away from camp.
Despite his absence, Mexico made an impressive run to the semifinals before falling to eventual champions Samurai Japan.
This year, Mexico will compete in Pool B at Daikin Park in Houston from March 6-11, facing the United States, Italy, Great Britain, and Brazil.
The top two teams will advance to the quarterfinals in Houston, where they'll meet one of the qualifiers from the San Juan pool.
Mexico begins pool play on March 6 against Great Britain, with Kirk expected to play a pivotal role in their pursuit of a championship run.
