Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly recently sat down with Blair & Barker on Sportsnet's 590 The Fan to talk about Addison Barger's process and more.

Blue Jays analyst Kevin Barker asked Mattingly, how hard is it for a young guy like Barger to be going through it on a first place team?
"Well its probably easier to go through it on a first place team than on the team we were last year. With a good team and enough guys producing you don't feel like you have to do everything yourself. Like Schneids says, We just need him to be the best version of himself. - Don Mattingly

"He's not feeling the pressure of, 'I have to do it.'"

Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly shares how Addison Barger is handling ups and downs in his first full #MLB season with Jeff Blair & Kevin Barker.

Don Mattingly explains what he has seen from Vladimir Guerrero Jr so far this season

Jeff Blair asked Mattingly, I know Vladimir Guerrero Jr has had his ups and downs so far this year and more recently has been injured, but what have you seen from him so far this year?
"I've seen him get better, but honestly I think him getting used to the pressure of that contract is something that is real, I think early on he wanted to prove himself, and I don't know that, I'm just going on what you see and it is that you want to prove to people that you're worth it, and I think he's settled down as the season has gone on and his second half has been really, really good." - Don Mattingly

«The pressure of that contract is real You want to prove to people you're worth it. He's settled down as the season's gone on.»

Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly weighs in on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s season at the dish with Jeff Blair & Kevin Barker.
Mattingly, 64, left the Marlins voluntarily after the 2022 season with more wins (437) than any manager in franchise history. He was named the Blue Jays' bench coach prior to the 2023 season.
"I've enjoyed the bench coach because John Schneider's a good guy, originally I came in, Schneider was a young manager. He's grown by leaps and bounds since then.
He's passed the point of me. He's a really good communicator. The managing side, I feel like, has passed me by.
"Maybe managing Louie's 12-year-old team (Mattingly's son), maybe I can still do that."
