Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer is set to make his highly anticipated spring training debut Thursday in Dunedin against the Miami Marlins.

The Toronto Blue Jays head into the 2026 season with heightened expectations after an offseason dedicated to strengthening its 40-man roster.
The front office made it clear that the goal is not simply to contend, but to finish the job.
With a roster widely viewed as championship-caliber, the Blue Jays will once again lean heavily on George Springer's bat and veteran presence.
Now 36, Springer transitioned into a heavier designated hitter role last season, logging more starts at DH than at any other point in his career.
The adjustment proved to be a major success. He turned in one of the finest offensive campaigns of his career, posting a career-best .309 batting average, a .399 on-base percentage and a .959 OPS.
Across 140 games, he crushed 32 home runs and drove in 84 runs, production that earned him his third Silver Slugger Award and a seventh-place finish in American League MVP voting.
Springer also delivered in the postseason. His defining moment came in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners, when he launched a three-run homer that propelled Toronto to a dramatic 4-3 victory and into the World Series.

However, October was not without adversity. Springer battled multiple injuries during the playoff run, and those lingering issues ultimately influenced his decision to skip this year's World Baseball Classic in order to prioritize his health heading into 2026.
With spring training underway, the organization is taking a cautious approach. The Blue Jays have already played three Grapefruit League games, but Springer has yet to appear in one, instead focusing on workouts and a gradual ramp-up.

Springer to make spring training debut on Thursday vs the Marlins

According to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet, Springer is scheduled to make his first Grapefruit League appearance Thursday against Miami, a sign the club believes he's ready for the next step.
George Springer's first Grapefruit League game is currently scheduled to be Thursday in Dunedin vs the Marlins. That'll also be Kazuma Okamoto's final game prior to leaving for the WBC
Speaking Monday with Robert Flores on MLB Network, Springer emphasized the team's mindset after last season's World Series disappointment.
"At the end of the day we have to understand that was last year and this is now. We have to have the same mentality." - Blue Jays veteran George Springer on his mindset entering 2026 after falling short in the World Series
Entering the final year of his six-year, $150 million contract, Springer's health and production could ultimately define Toronto's championship hopes in 2026.
