Could a key player return for games six and seven?
For the Toronto Blue Jays, the hopeful - and likely - answer to that question is a resounding yes.
After missing games four and five, manager John Schneider said that designated hitter George Springer is likely to be back in the lineup for Game 6 at Rogers Centre on Friday.
ohn Schneider is expecting George Springer to be back in the lineup for the Blue Jays tomorrow. 😊
Springer left Game 3 in the 7th inning on Monday night, grabbing his side with an apparent oblique injury after an awkward swing.
Schneider noted that he almost returned for Game 5, but opted for a extra day of rest instead.
He was right on the fence. I think he probably could have. I was really juggling what's best for him, what's best for the team, not just immediately to start the game, but kind of how that game may unfold too.
In the event that he doesn't start, he would be available off the bench, but Springer will fight to open the game atop the Blue Jays order.
The Blue Jays and Springer are lucky and thankful that the injury isn't more serious and that Springer is able to play out the final two games, rather than sitting and watching from the bench a la Anthony Santander
Blue Jays will be in tough against Yoshinobu Yamamato
The Blue Jays could use Springer's bat too. Only they have been victorious in their last two games, they will be in tough against Yoshinobu Yamamato The Dodgers pitcher held the Blue Jays to just one run in his previous start as he hurled his second consecutive post season complete game.
An official announcement won't be made until 90 minutes before game time on Friday.
