Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins spoke with the media on Thursday about his excitement on acquiring former Cy Young award winner Shane Bieber.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins spoke the the media following Thursday's trade deadline about their acquisitions and how confident he was about making the team better on the run prevention side of things.
«We're really excited,» said GM Ross Atkins. «We feel that we were very aggressive at the deadline and were able to accomplish our goals and make the team better.»
More specifically he spoke about the Shane Bieber trade for pitching prospect Khal Stephen.

Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins announced that Shane Bieber will be at Rogers Centre of Friday

According to Atkins the former Cy Young award winner will be at Rogers Centre on Friday, where he'll map out the next steps in his ongoing Tommy John rehabilitation.
Shane Bieber will be at Rogers Centre tomorrow and Blue Jays will sit down with him to determine where/when he makes his next rehab start.
30-year-old Bieber is at least a couple weeks away from making his 2025 debut, which is fine considering the Blue Jays presently have a strong five-man rotation rolling as well as it has all season.
However if and when Bieber does return, he's the kind of pitcher any team would want starting a playoff game with a lifetime 3.22 ERA and five times as many walks at the MLB level.
«Obviously, the guy has been elite and has performed very well on really big stages, has been the best pitcher in the game at certain points, so that was important to us, just raising our potential, raising our bar,» said Atkins, who added that Bieber's next steps will be set once he arrives Friday. «He just made a rehab start (Tuesday with double-A Akron), he'll make another one in the coming days, and we'll go one start at a time as we come together and make that plan with him.»

Toronto landed a potential post-season starter in Shane Bieber, whose addition in a scarce segment of the market is a bet on his ability to emerge from his Tommy John surgery in time to pitch in meaningful games.
