Blue Jays legend set to receive incredible honour in Toronto

Cito Gaston, the iconic manager who led the team to two World Series in 1992 an 1993, and came back to manage the team from 2008-2010 will be the guest of honour at the upcoming event.

While the name Conn Smythe is often associated with hockey - the NHL's MVP Trophy bears his name - the Toronto businessman and philanthropist has plenty of namesakes in the sporting world and throughout Toronto.

Wednesday's event benefits the Easter Seals and will include a host of other Toronto sports luminaries including Maple Leafs Legend Doug Gilmour, Sceptres Captain Blayre Turnbull, Tempo GM Monica Wright, and former Blue Jays player Rob Butler.

The event will be hosted by broadcaster and former Blue Jays announcer Rod Black.

The silent auction will feature plenty of rare sports memorabilia including a 1972 Team Canada Hockey Jersey signed by Paul Henderson; an autographed Connor McDavid Oilers Jersey; as well as vacation packages and sports tickets.

Gaston, who once roomed with the legendary Hank Aaron, remains a beloved figure in Toronto.

He still involved in baseball and recently joined the Toronto Maple Leafs of the InterCounty Baseball League as an advisor.

In 2024, Gaston was featured on the Hall of Fame's Contemporary era committee ballot for election consideration along with fellow managers Jim Leyland and Lou Piniella. He received less than five votes.

He was added to the Blue Jays Level of Excellence in 1999 and was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.
