Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer had some very concerning comments in his post game interview on Saturday regarding his thumb injury.

Scherzer gave up two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Angels and dealt with significant thumb inflammation during the start, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
He topped out at 95 m.p.h. with his fastball, averaging 93.8 m.p.h., but never seemed to have his typical plus command.
The three-time Cy Young winner hit the first batter of the game with a pitch and would later walk three, including one with the bases loaded.
Max Scherzer says he dealt with «a lot of inflammation» in his thumb after his last start and that he was on a limited pitch count today. He's optimistic that an extra day of rest will help going into his next start.
Scherzer said after the outing that he was optimistic he'd make his next scheduled start with an extra day of rest, adding that he battled to take the ball Saturday, failing to accomplish the normal weight lifting and bullpens that he typically does in between starts.
It took a «big push» for Scherzer to make his start today, the righty said. No lifting with his thumb and a compromised bullpen. «dealt with a lot of inflammation and wasn't able to kind of do my normal routines.» An extra day off before his next start will be huge.
"I rely on feel," Scherzer said after Saturday's start. "I really didn't have that going into this."

He was on a pitch count of around 70, and while it's possible he'll go deeper into his scheduled start next week Friday in Sacramento, it's also possible that his thumb inflammation doesn't subside and he gets scratched or pushed back.
As of now, Scherzer's next start would come six days from now against the Athletics in Sacramento on an extra day of rest, a meaningful difference in his view.
Following that, he'll have at least a week off during the all-star break, allowing for further rest before the second half resumes.
