The Toronto Blue Jays have finalized the signing of pitcher Max Scherzer, in a move that many expected would happen.

To make room on the active roster, pitcher Michael Petersen was designated for assignment. The Blue Jays now have seven days to trade, release, or outright Petersen.
The official announcement comes days after a report that the Blue Jays and Scherzer had agreed to a one-year, $15.5MM deal.
The contract has a full no-trade clause and doesn't come with any deferred money.
Scherzer should immediately slot in as the Blue Jays fourth starter and significantly lengthens the rotation and overall pitching staff.
The casualty of this signing is Michael Petersen. The Blue Jays had claimed the right-hander off of waivers from Miami back in November. A roster move was needed and widely anticipated to happen today.
Petersen, 30, debuted in the majors last year, splitting time between the Marlins and the Dodgers.
Overall in 2024, Petersen was 3-1 with a 5.95 in 16 games. He compiled 14 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.

Scherzer will be a welcome addition to the Jays rotation and a wealth of knowledge to the entire pitching staff.
