The Toronto Blue Jays have some new arms in the bullpen.
Right-handed relievers
Dillon Tate and
Paxton Schultz have been called up to the big club from triple-A Buffalo, the team announced Sunday morning.
Righty
Nick Sandlin was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain, and
Jacob Barnes has been designated for assignment.
Barnes struggled mightily during his second stint in Toronto, posting a 9.00 ERA in just eight innings, capped off by the four earned runs surrendered in the 12th inning of Saturday's game.
Meanwhile, Sandlin has been a big part of the bullpen's success early on.
The 28-year-old, who was acquired in the off-season alongside
Andres Gimenez from Cleveland, has struck out 10 batters and allowed two runs over eight innings this season while ranking in the 97th percentile in whiff percentage, per Baseball Savant.
Tate owns a 4.09 ERA over his five-year career. He pitched 3.1 innings for Toronto last season. The 30-year-old has allowed only one hit and one run over six innings in triple-A this season.
Schultz, 27, has a 2.08 ERA across four appearances for the Bisons this season. The righty pitched 92 innings in 2024, posting a 4.11 ERA while striking out 112 batters.
Tate and Schultz will be active for Sunday's game against Seattle. First pitch is at 1:37 p.m. ET on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
