The second edition of Spring Breakout is upon us and filled with and array of prospects. While the fanbases of many teams, are familiar with the top-end of minor leaguers, the Spring Breakouts are also a chance for lesser-known prospects to shine.
The 3rd baseman got his first taste of professional baseball last year after being selected by the Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2024 draft.
The product of Bucknell University fits a modern trend of the Blue Jays developing high OBP-type players similar to Spencer Horwitz and Alan Roden.
Although he hit just one home run for Dunedin last year, Keys slashed .293/.378/.451 in just 22 games. He has shown some power however, hitting 27 home runs over his three season at Bucknell as well as 11 while playing for the Westhampton Aviators in the 2023 HCBL Summer League.
Beyond his power, Keys' unwillingness to expand the zone and his above-average plate discipline could turn a few heads during Saturday's game against the Twins.
Just 21, Keys is still a few years away from big league action, though if he has another strong season in Dunedin, he could himself in Vancouver, and possibly even Double-A New Hampshire by the end of 2025.
Saturday's Spring Spring Breakout game against the Twins is scheduled for 1:05pm ET and will be available on SportsNet One.
