The Toronto Blue Jays' top pitching prospect Trey Yesavage entered Saturday's Futures Game in the top of the third inning for the American League and struck out St. Louis Cardinals prospect JJ Wetherholt on four pitches.
⭐️ Trey Yesavage struck out every batter he faced at the MLB All-Star #FuturesGame 😉
Trey Yesavage's first experience at All-Star Weekend was short but sweet
Trey Yesavage only faced one batter (Fishercats likely do not want him to skip a start), but he struck out JJ Wetherholt, getting a sword to end the AB on his cutter.
That was all for Yesavage on the afternoon.
The 21-year-old punched out Wetherholt on a check swing, using his cutter to set down the Cardinals' top prospect.
Yesavage earned his way to the Futures Game by posting a 3.19 ERA over 67.2 innings while rocketing up three levels, currently pitching for double-A New Hampshire.
Toronto's 2024 first-rounder currently is tied for second among all minor leagues in strikeouts, sitting at 111 entering play Saturday.
The young pitcher has done so well this season that many are wondering if he will simply jump Triple-A and actually get called up to the majors this season and play in Toronto.
While Yesavage making a jump from Double-A with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to the majors would be quite impressive, it is also not a guarantee as the Blue Jays have a very important second half of the season if they want to stay in first place.
Blue Jays fans are clearly aware of Yesavage but this Futures Game now put the rest of the league on notice of how truly incredible this young Blue Jays pitcher is.
It will be interesting to see where Yesavage end up playing in the second half of the season.
