Why was it important for you to sign long term with the Blue Jays?
"I've always said that I wanted to stay in Toronto. I've been here since I was 16 years old. In my mind, I've always wanted to stay with one team and one organization because I know the people here. That's why I decided to sign."
You said your family didn't want to leave Toronto. What makes playing and living there special?
"The fans, how they treat you and support you no matter what. They've always been here for us. To me, when you have fans like that, you gotta give the love back."
What would it mean to you to have your name on the Level of Excellence one day?
"I'm not thinking about that right now. I hope one day my name will be there, but now I'm focused on playing and helping the team win."
What about this organization makes you believe you can win a World Series? Do you think the team can do it this year?
"Everybody is having fun together. We go out there and compete. We're not scared to lose. We're not scared to go out there and do whatever we can to help the team win."
The offense has been much better this season. What changes were made to get more out of the bats?
"Everybody is doing their part. Everybody can take a walk. If we need a bunt, we can bunt. If we need a steal, we steal. We're playing the right way right now. And to me, when you play the game the right way, something (good) can happen."
Bo Bichette being healthy has been big for the club so far. He's a free agent at the end of the season. Are you going to try to convince him to re-sign?
"It's personal. He can decide. To me, personally, I would like him to stay here, but I can't control that. He knows his value, and whatever he ends up doing, I will be happy for him."
Who's the best guy from a visiting team to talk to at first base?
"It depends. I like talking with Ronald Acuna Jr., Teoscar Hernández, and Fernando Tatis Jr. I can talk with those three every day.
How cool is it to see your face on your own limited edition sports drink? Was that something you ever thought was possible as a kid?
"It's cool. It's like a dream come true. You dream about this as a kid, and when it comes true, it feels really good."
With so many different endorsement opportunities available to you, what goes into choosing a company like BODYARMOR?
"It makes me feel fresh. It keeps me hydrated. I like the drink. It makes me feel in the game all the time and helps me stay healthy and on the field by keeping hydrated. Fruit punch is my favorite flavor."
OK, Vlad. Here are some fun questions to finish off the interview. What's your favorite Latin restaurant or meal in Toronto?
"My favorite meal is rice, beans, and goat, but I don't have a favorite Latin restaurant in Toronto. My cousin makes my food for me. My cousin is my chef."
Is there any chance that you or Bo will grow your hair out again?
"Not me. I'm done with that, but maybe Bo will let it grow back again."
