Starting Pitchers Overview
The Blue Jays look to Max Scherzer to even up the series at two games a piece in game 4 of the ALCS. Scherzer threw a bullpen session Monday, to be ready for the tall order.
Both Scherzer and Chris Bassitt were added to the Blue Jays' ALCS roster after neither were included on the ALDS roster.
Scherzer got the nod over Bassitt as the fourth member of Toronto's ALCS rotation.
Scherzer stumbled to the finish line with a 9.00 ERA over his final six regular-season starts.
However, he had a 3.60 ERA and 56:15 K:BB over 60 frames covering his first 11 starts, and the Blue Jays will place faith in the 41-year-old's extensive postseason experience to get the job done.
Luis Castillo gets the ball for the Mariners in game 4. In his last outing Castillo did not factor into the decision in a win over the Tigers in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
He allowed one hit and four walks while striking out three over 4.2 scoreless innings.
The veteran right-hander matched his single-game high this season with the four free passes, a number he reached only once during the regular season, but he was effective nonetheless.
Castillo recorded 13 swings-and-misses on 85 pitches and hung zeros, affording his team enough time to eventually win the game and even the series at one game apiece.
His dominance has waned a bit in recent years, but Castillo is still an incredibly valuable piece of the Seattle rotation.
He will look to hold off a once again potent Blue Jays lineup in game 4.
After going ice cold in game 1 and 2, the Blue Jays offence is back with a vengeance
It's amazing how much can change in a day. After Game 2, only Springer's bat had a pulse, but this lineup has caught fire.
Guerrero just went 4-for-4 with a home run and two doubles while Springer, Kirk, Giménez and Barger all homered.
Clement is quietly one of the hottest players in the postseason, too, batting .462 after a 2-for-5 day.
This lineup has either been scorching hot or ice cold, with no in between. If there's one bat that the Blue Jays could still really use, though, it's Santander.
His at-bats have looked better than his numbers, but Toronto needs its big outfielder to turn on a pitch soon and change the narrative of his 2025 season.
In the history of best-of-seven postseason series, teams that have won Game 3 when facing a 2-0 deficit have gone on to win the series 14 of 53 times (26.4%).
Springer is now tied for fourth all time in postseason home runs with Bernie Williams (22), trailing only Kyle Schwarber (23), Jose Altuve (27) and Manny Ramirez (29)
