Starting pitchers overview
In his last start Jose Berrios came away with a no-decision in a 7-6 extra-innings win over the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
The veteran right-hander blanked Miami for six frames before running out of gas in the seventh, exiting the mound after generating 33 called or swinging strikes in 81 pitches (56 total strikes).
Berrios was in line for his 10th win of the season, but a blown save by Jeff Hoffman forced him to settle for his 14th quality start.
Berrios has given up three earned runs or fewer in five of his last six outings, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB over 31.2 innings during that stretch.
Nick Lodolo (8-7) gets the ball for the Reds on Tuesday evening. In his last outing Lodolo took the loss against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six batters over 4.2 innings.
Lodolo made his first start since Aug. 4, as he spent over three weeks on the injured list due to a finger blister on his pitching hand.
The southpaw began his outing in fine form, retiring the first nine batters he faced, but hit a roadblock in the fourth frame, when Los Angeles tallied four runs on five hits against him.
Lodolo did manage to rack up 14 whiffs and six punchouts, so this wasn't an entirely disheartening outing.
He still carries a strong 3.22 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 130:25 K:BB over 134.1 innings on the season
