Despite the departure of Bo Bichette, the future at shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays looks very bright.
With Bichette's departure, it allows infielder Andrés Giménez to permanently call shortstop home after impressing in September and in the playoffs.
Although Giménez isn't an unrestricted free agent until 2031, it doesn't mean the door can't be open for Arjun Nimmala who may have a better path to the Majors with Bichette's departure.
Nimmala ranks as MLB Pipeline's third-best Blue Jays prospect and their 42nd-best prospect in baseball.
ARJUN NIMMALA GAME TYING TANK. THE FUTURE.
Power is the name of the game for the shortstop, as Pipeline grades the tool at 60.
There could be swing and miss in the future on off-speed stuff, but the drop in K% is encouraging.
The hit tool lags behind the power, but he has the potential to stick at shortstop thanks to a 60-grade arm and 50-grade fielding.
Nimmala is currently with the Vancouver Canadians in Advanced Single-A and is looking to improve from a decent 2025.
Ranked 68th in MLB's Top 100 Prospects list, Nimmala slashed .224/.313/.381 with a .694 OPS.
He finished the year with 13 home runs and 61 RBIs in 120 games. Defensively, Nimmala posted a .957 fielding percentage in 98 games at shortstop.
The 20-year-old will most likely continue to see time in Vancouver before a call-up to New Hampshire in 2026, enough time to continue developing for a potential spot in the Majors.
Blue Jays top infield prospects now have clear path to the majors
Coming up behind the aforementioned Nimmala is shortstop JoJo Parker, who was the best all-around hitting high school shortstop available in the 2025 draft.
There's a lot to like about Parker, as he's an above-average hitter with some pop in his bat.
Parker ranked as MLB Pipeline's second-best prospect and baseball's 40th-ranked prospect.
Parker is known for having a great all-around bat, as the left-handed batter has a good swing and hits to all fields, while also having a good approach at the plate.
Here's where JoJo Parker (#BlueJays' 8th-overall selection) ranked pre-draft:

There's still projection in his frame, but he's also smacking the ball hard. Parker has a hit tool of 60 and a power tool of 55.
With Parker already being 19 years old, there's a good chance the Dunedin Blue Jays will be his first professional team.
Being ranked second before ever taking a swing in any capacity is a telling story.
Whether it's Nimmala or Parker as the Blue Jays' everyday shortstop in the next four to five years, Toronto will be covered following Bichette's departure.
