Toronto Blue Jays rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela is really coming into his own

Rookie catcher Brandon Valezuela is quickly making an impact with the Toronto Blue Jays, putting together an impressive stretch to begin his Major League career.
In just his first two weeks in the big leagues, Valenzuela has already checked off several key milestones.
Less than a week after recording his first hit, and only two days after earning his first win behind the plate, he launched his first home run, which also marked his first RBI with Toronto.

During Wednesday’s 8–1 victory over the Boston Red Sox, Ernie Clement hit his first home run of the season.
Valenzuela added to the offense in the ninth inning, connecting for his second homer off Garrett Whitlock to extend the lead.
Valenzuela finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, continuing a strong run for Toronto, which secured its third consecutive series win after previously dropping six in a row.

Valenzuela's consistent play and elite defensive skillset may force John Schneider into a difficult decision when Alejandro Kirk returns

Despite the offensive highlights, manager John Schneider emphasized the rookie’s work behind the plate.
Speaking with Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, Schneider praised Valenzuela’s defensive ability, calling it “pretty elite.”
Brandon Valenzuela has "got some pretty elite defensive skills," John Schneider said.
With Alejandro Kirk expected to return, Valenzuela’s strong performance could create a difficult decision for the Blue Jays’ coaching staff.
His emergence raises questions about the future of Tyler Heineman, who is out of minor league options and may not be willing to accept a demotion to Triple-A.
As the roster situation develops, it will be interesting to see how Toronto manages what is becoming a crowded catching position.
Up next, the Blue Jays turn to Kevin Gausman (2–1, 2.57 ERA), who is scheduled to start Thursday in Minnesota against Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (2–1, 3.94 ERA).
