With Toronto Blue Jays All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk on the shelf the position is thin beyond Tyler Heineman. Picking up Danny Jansen as a third back stop would be a solid move for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays Alejandro Kirk suffered a concussion on Sunday and will not be back until he passes tests associated with MLB protocols.
The Tampa Bay Rays are 10 games back in the American League East and many pundits see them as sellers at the MLB Trade deadline.
Danny Jansen signed a one year prove it deal with Tampa Bay last off-season and things have obviously not gone according to plans with the Rays this year, and will likely not re-sign him which means he will be dealt at the deadline.

Could there be a trade in the works for a reunion with Danny Jansen to address catching depth?

The Blue Jays are very thin at the catcher position beyond Tyler Heineman, who has been a godsend with his breakout year with the club on both sides of the ball.
Ali Sanchez and Christian Bethancourt are okay but Danny Jansen is a much better option as a third catcher.
The Blue Jays have carried three catchers in the past going into the dog days of summer, it may be worth doing it again.
So far this season Jansen has been decent as he currently has 11 homeruns, 29 RBIs with a .204 batting average and a .314 on base percentage which is why he could be an interesting option to multiple teams looking for catcher depth before the playoffs.
Should be thinking Danny Jansen..... Hitting lefties amazing, catcher depth and coming home. May be perfect bench option.
When Jansen signed a one year deal in Tampa, he stated that he was hoping to prove that 2024 was just a down year and that he would be able to bounce back.
He was hoping to land a long term extension with the Rays but that doesn't look like an option now. Hadn't thought about him much given the Rays weren't seen as sellers until this week, but Danny Jansen would be a nice catching upgrade for the Padres. Some concern he's benefiting from the Rays ST stadium (.630 OPS on road) but a good defensive catcher who has solid power.
Maybe reacquire Danny Jansen from rays while Kirk is out.
A reunion in Toronto would definitely not effect this teams current chemistry or effect it's clubhouse culture, it would in fact boost the energy this team has going forward.
Everyone else has bought into hitting coach David Popkins philosophy which have produced amazing results, I'm sure Jano could benefit greatly from his tutelage.
As the trade deadline is only three days away, there is a good chance that Jansen is traded this week.
Maybe Toronto Toronto is his next destination.
