Danny Jansen off to rough start with new team

Take a moment to remember Danny Jansen. The former Blue Jays catcher is still missed following his mid-season trade in July of last year. Based on his early season numbers, it would appear that Jansen is missing the Blue Jays and Rogers Centre as well.
Jansen is off to awful start with the
Tampa Bay Rays, having just four hits through his first 30 at bats, which equates to a .133. average. One of those hits though, has been a home run.
While Jansen has a never been a high average hitter, he's hit .219 for his career, his offensive numbers, particularly his slugging, OPS, and OPS+ have dramatically tailed off since leaving Toronto.
In his half-season with the
Tampa Bay Rays, Jansen hit only .188, with a .300 SLG, .623 OPS, and 76 OPS+. With Tampa Bay, those numbers decline even further.
For comparison's sake, during his time in Toronto, he had four seasons with an OPS+ of 100 or better including 142 in 2022.
Jansen might be starting to turn a corner though. In his last few games his slugging has gone up by over 100 points, though his can largely be attributed to his 3-4 night against the Braves. In that game, he collected all four os his RBIs, two of which came via the home run.
A change of scenery can be tough on a player, especially if they have been with one team for most or all their career. However, Jansen has been a bit of a slow starter and somewhat inconsistent at the plate. He has power, and if can remain healthy for a full season - something he's had trouble with throughout his career - then he could easily top 25 home runs.
It's early though, and he still has plenty of time to turn it around.
