Daulton Varsho opens up about future with Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays centerfielder Daulton Varsho opened up this week about his potential long-term future in the city.
Varsho, who joined the team in a trade from the Arizona Diamondbacks after the 2022 season, spoke on an episode of the 6ix Inning Stretch podcast released Wednesday with former Blue Jays player Whit Merrifield and Toronto sports reporter Lindsay Dunn.
One of the topics broached was Varsho's future in Toronto
He is currently on a one-year deal, with one more year of arbitration eligibility after this one and the opportunity to hit free agency for the first time in his career in 2027.
«There's a lot of different things that go into it,» Varsho told the hosts. «You want to think about your family and what's best for them, and where I want to be, and obviously Toronto is a great place to play. They treat the families really well.»
Varsho has been swinging for the fences this season, as 13 of his 31 hits have been homers, in just 33 games this season while dealing with a shoulder injury.
While he didn't explicitly name his price, the 2024 Gold Glove winner said there's essentially a contract Toronto could give him on a long-term deal that would be an offer he couldn't refuse.
«There's always a number in my head, where it's like 'okay if we want to stay here for the rest of my career, that's great,'» said the Marshfield, Wisconsin, native. «It's easy for my family to kind of get here and home. So it's kind of a good spot for us.»
Varsho has played in just two playoff games in his career, but has a chance at perhaps making a deep run with the first-place Blue Jays this season.
'It's fun. I mean we're winning here, and obviously when we win, it's just a whole lot more fun,» Varsho added. «We'll see what comes through when extension talks come about we're obviously going to listen.»
