The Bronx Bombers are in need of a right-handed outfielder. Among their options is a former Toronto Blue Jay
Although the New York Yankees recently re-signed Cody Bellinger to a long-term deal this offseason, the outfielder/first-baseman is left-handed, exacerbating the team's need for a right-handed option.
General Manager Brian Cashman has indicated that they are looking at both free agency and the trade market to help fill that void.
And while New York's front office has made no indication of which way they are leaning - or which player, if any, might be the favourite - one name that has popped up is former Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk
Sources: Yankees considering trade/FA options for potential righty hitting OF bat, including Randal Grichuk, and earlier this offseason they made an offer to Austin Slater.
Although the last couple of seasons haven't gone well for Grichuk, he could still add value off the bench as a right-handed power threat. the fact that he can also play both centre and right field doesn't hurt his value.
Currently, the Yankees outfield lines up with Bellinger in left, Trent Grisham in centre, and Aaron Judge in right, with Giancarlo Stanton as the every day DH, while Jasson Dominguez figures to be the 4th outfielder.
However, both Belly and Grisham are lefties, while Dominguez is a switch hitter.
Grisham in particular hasn't hit lefties well; his career WRC+ is just 88, compared to 144 against righties. Grichuk meanwhile has a career 134 WRC+ against lefties, although that dipped significantly in 2025.
Several other names being considered
Grichuk is far from the only player the Yankees have checked in on. Reports are they checked in on Austin Hays before the righty agreed to a deal with the Chicago White Sox They have also been looking at a reunion with Austin Slater, whom they acquired at the deadline last year.
Other outfielders still available include Tommy Pham and Starling Marte.
