Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jonathan Davis has made his mark as a hitting coach in Dunedin.
Jonathan Davis has found his next act.
The former outfielder, who spent nearly a decade in the Toronto Blue Jays organization after being drafted by the club in 2013, has found new life as a hitting coach.
While Davis never formally announced his retirement, he has not played professionally since his release from the Miami Marlins in 2024, and has not appeared in a big league game since 2023.
Last year, his old organization the Blue Jays hired him to be an assistant hitting coach of the Dunedin Blue Jays, their low-A affiliate.
When the full player development staff was released earlier this month, Davis' name was there again, although in a more prominent role than last season.
Davis has been named the hitting coach for the Vancouver Canadians.
It's an upgrade both in terms of minor league level and responsibility. Whereas before he was an assistant, he is now fully in charge of a bunch of hitters and has staff working under him.
It's a testament to his skill that he was promoted from within after a year on the job.
The Blue Jays are well-known throughout the league for their superior player development department and Davis is apparently fitting right in.
While Davis is most remembered for his time with Canada's team, with whom he spent five seasons in the minors and another 3.5 in the majors, he also got into games for the New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, and Marlins.
Now, he appears to be on his way up in the coaching world.
