The Toronto Blue Jays look for the series win this afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians at Rogers Centre. Guardians starter Gavin Williams is on the Bump versus Blue Jays veteran Kevin Gausman. First pitch is at 3:07 PM ET on Sportsnet and Guardians TV. Listen on the Sportsnet App, Sportsnet 590 and Gaurdians Radio Network.
Kevin Gausman gets the ball this afternoon at Rogers Centre. Gausman (2-3) took the loss in in his last outing in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Yankees, allowing six runs on three hits and five walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings.
Gausman got through the first two innings with relative ease but ran into trouble in the third. He issued a single and five walks (including two with the bases loaded) before giving up a bases-clearing double to Austin Wells that gave the Yankees a 6-1 lead.
Gausman tossed 53 of his 71 pitches in the third inning before being lifted, and he was subsequently ejected for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout.
He has now allowed 10 runs and walked eight batters in his past two starts. The right-hander is up to a 4.50 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 34 innings.
Gavin Williams will take on the Blue Jays lineup today after a rough outing in Minnesota last week. Williams (2-1) took the loss against the Twins, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over two innings. He struck out two.
The 25-year-old righty fired just 68 pitches in this abbreviated outing. The Minnesota lineup jumped on Williams out the gate as Edouard Julien opened the game's scoring by cracking a leadoff homer.
This poor effort piles on to a mixed season for Williams, who has pitched to a 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB across 28 innings.
