When Jeff Hoffman came off the mound following the Blue Jays victory against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon, one may have noticed that he blew a kiss towards the home team's dugout.
For Hoffman, it was a subtle in-your-face-moment.
Before signing with the Blue Jays, Hoffman had an agreement with the Orioles. However, the orange birds reneged after Hoffman's physical led to concerns about his shoulder. The Blue Jays did not share those concerns, and they appear to have been proven right.
Throughout the first two weeks of the season, Hoffman is 2-0 with an 0.96 ERA and three saves in three chances. Meanwhile, the Orioles were without the services of closer Felix Bautista for today's game.
Hoffman's actions got the approval of at least one of teammates, centerfielder Myles Straw.
«I did not see that, but whatever he wants to do he can do it. As long as he keeps pitching like that he can do whatever he wants.» - Myles Straw
In a post-game interview with Arden Zwelling, Hoffman admitted that pitching well against the Orioles means a little more to him than some of his other performances.
It's just who I am, it's just how I'm built
Funnily enough, the Blue Jays are about to begin a three game series against the Atlanta Braves, the other team that Hoffman had an agreement with prior to joining the Blue Jays. Much like the Orioles, the Braves backed out after Hoffman's physical.
Fans will have to wait and see as to whether or not Hoffman pulls the same move against Atlanta.
