The Houston Astros have signed former Toronto Blue Jays IF/OF Cavan Biggio to a minor League contract.

The Houston Astros have signed utility man Cavan Biggio to a minor league deal with an invite to big league Spring Training, per a team announcement.
The announcement noted that Biggio will be arriving to Astros Spring Training in West Palm Beach today.
Biggio, 31 in April, would be entering his eighth season as a big leaguer if he makes the Astros’ roster.
A fifth-round selection by Toronto Blue Jays in 2016, Biggio made an immediate impact when he reached the majors.
Over his first two seasons (2019–20), he emerged as a key contributor during the Blue Jays’ rebuild, posting a .240/.368/.430 slash line with a 118 wRC+ and 4.0 fWAR across 159 games.
His advanced approach at the plate and defensive versatility made him look like a foundational piece of the club’s next competitive core.
At the time, Biggio appeared set as Toronto’s everyday second baseman, sharing the infield with rising stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.
While Guerrero and Bichette blossomed into franchise cornerstones, Biggio’s production gradually dipped.
From 2021 onward, he shifted into more of a utility role, batting .219/.327/.351 (93 wRC+) before the Blue Jays moved on from him in June 2024.
That decision sent Biggio into a whirlwind stretch that saw him suit up for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves later that season.
He then signed a minor-league deal with the Kansas City Royals the following offseason.

Since departing Toronto, Biggio has struggled to rediscover his early-career form

Across stops with multiple organizations, he’s slashed .184/.298/.286 (70 wRC+) while striking out at a 29 percent clip.
His stint in Kansas City produced a 59 wRC+ over 37 games before he was designated for assignment near the trade deadline.
He wrapped up the 2025 campaign in the Los Angeles Angels minor-league system, where he hit .242/.375/.303 in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Despite the downturn, Biggio’s plate discipline and defensive flexibility — he’s logged time at second base, first base and in the outfield — still offer intrigue.
In the right situation, he could provide value as a left-handed bench option capable of moving around the diamond.
