Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido addressed reporters Friday, reflecting on his trade and expressing appreciation for his time with the organization.

Joey Loperfido was dealt back to the Houston Astros earlier in the day in in exchange for outfielder Jesús Sánchez.
The Blue Jays had originally acquired Loperfido from Houston in July 2024 as part of the return for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi.

Loperfido grateful for time with Blue Jays

While at the Blue Jays’ Player Development Complex, Loperfido spoke candidly about how much the experience meant to him.
"I'm so grateful to have gotten to play with this group."

Joey Loperfido speaks on getting traded back to the Astros.
Loperfido was part of the package — along with Jake Bloss and Will Wagner — that Toronto received for Kikuchi on July 29, 2024. His first stint with the Blue Jays proved challenging, as he hit .197 with two home runs, nine RBIs and 52 strikeouts across 43 games.
The 26-year-old spent time last season bouncing between Toronto and Triple-A Buffalo, but showed significant improvement at the big-league level.
In 41 games with the Blue Jays, he batted .333 with four home runs and 14 RBIs.
Loperfido admitted this latest move felt different than when he was first traded from Houston to Toronto.

“I’m not crying, yet.”

Joey Loperfido on how getting traded to HOU compares to when he was traded to TOR.

Loperfido received the news last night.

“Feel like I am leaving knowing I’m a better player than I was when I got here.”
Sánchez, 28, split last season between Miami and Houston, hitting .237 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs in 134 games.
The left-handed hitter has launched 73 home runs over 580 career major-league games across six seasons.
The Astros re-acquiring Loperfido, who’s expected in camp on Saturday, raises the floor of Houston’s outfield while making the roster more functional.
Unlike Sánchez, Loperfido has minor-league options remaining. That he is making the major-league minimum salary doesn’t hurt, either, for a team remaining mindful of its proximity to the luxury tax threshold.
