Daulton Varsho is close to returning. This much is true. Daulton Varsho will also be delayed in his return to the Blue Jays. This much is also true. While it may seem paradoxical, the reason is an adorable one: his wife Brook is about to give birth.

Congratulations are in order as baby Varsho is expected as early as Wednesday. As such, Varsho will put his rehab on hold in order to attend to the birth. Once the new arrival is here, the Blue Jays centerfielder and reigning Gold Glove winner will begin ramping up his rehab process.
He appears to moving in the right direction. Not only did he play six innings in extended Spring Training on Monday, he is set to begin the formal rehab process by playing a few games with Single-A Dunedin later this week.
During his extended Spring Training appearance, he didn't have to make any long throws in the gap or over-exert himself. He did make normal throws back to the infield and felt good while doing it.
Throwing represents the last hurdle Varsho needs to get over before he can return to big league action. Ideally, the Blue Jays would like to see him throw 180-200 feet without any lingering soreness.
Varsho did appear in some spring games for the Blue Jays, appearing as DH. He hit up a storm, slugging four home runs in 33 at-bats.
While Varsho is anxious to return, the Blue Jays don't feel a need to rush him. Although George Springer is day-to-day with a wrist issue, Myles Straw has been more than capable fill-in, and Nathan Lukes has made some great defensive plays as well.
That being said, the club will be better with Varsho roaming centre.
