Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes exited Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in the first inning with an apparent injury.

Toronto Blue Jays right-fielder Nathan Lukes led off the game with a double to right field but appeared to injure himself sliding into second base.
The Blue Jays’ medical staff came out to look at him and immediately took him out of the game.
Nathan Lukes hurt himself on this double. Was checked out briefly on the field and walked off. He came in on a 10-for-20 heater with six RBIs over previous six games.
According to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae, Lukes left with left hamstring discomfort per
the Blue Jays.

Toronto was trailing 5-0 to the Guardians at the time of the injury.
Lukes was slashing .235/.273/.294 with eight RBI heading into Friday’s game. He was in the middle of a hot streak over his last six games with 10 hits in his last 20 at bats.
The 31-year-old outfielder had a breakout season in 2025, batting .255 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI in his first full season in the Major Leagues.
He also registered 17 hits and eight RBI during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series last year.
If Lukes needs to miss any amount of time, it’s possible there could still be a small gap between now and when Springer returns, which could force the Blue Jays to juggle their roster even further.
With Daulton Varsho in center, the Blue Jays still have Davis Schneider, Jesús Sánchez and Myles Straw, while Eloy Jiménez could slide out to play a corner spot in a pinch.
Beyond that, though, the Blue Jays’ only other outfielder on the 40-man roster is prospect Jonatan Clase in Triple-A… but he’s already on the IL there, too.
Toronto entered Friday’s action in fourth place in the American League East with a 10-14 record and are a five and a half games behind the New York Yankees for top spot in the division.
