The Los Angeles Angels are finding out what the Toronto Blue Jays already knew about Alek Manoah.

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Alek Manoah will be shelved to begin the 2026 regular season while he recovers from a right middle finger contusion.
According to the teams official transaction log, Alek Manoah was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Manoah's rotation spot in jeopardy as he will begin the 2026 season rehabbing in Triple-A Salt Lake.

The former Cy Young finalist, who also hasn’t made an MLB appearance since 2024, has been in the 91-92 mph range with his fastball.
Manoah threw 93-94 on average before undergoing elbow surgery two seasons ago.
His velocity was in a similar spot last season in the minor leagues with Triple-A Buffalo.
The right-hander's pursuit of a rotation spot this spring has been anything but smooth, as he's posted a 9.39 ERA, 2.41 WHIP and 13:14 K:BB across 15.1 innings.
The 28-year-old has been obliterated for 16 earned runs on five homers and 14 walks in 15 1/3 innings of work this spring, and he's now contending with a finger issue.
Manoah will be sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake once he's cleared to return.
Manoah could still begin the season in the starting rotation with George Klassen reassigned to minor-league camp, while Grayson Rodriguez (arm) is banged up.
However, if Manoah continues to struggle at the Triple-A level during his rehab like he has this spring, Klassen may just stay put until Manoah can figure it out.
