The Miami Blue Jays have brought catcher Rob Brantly back into the organization on a one-year deal. Brantly, who made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays over a decade ago, will also receive an invite to Spring Training, as is typical with these types of contracts.
Brantly has since bounced around the league, spending time with the White Sox, Phillies, Giants, Yankees, and Rays. He also had a brief stint with the Blue Jays organization after signing a minor league deal prior to the 2023 season.
In 46 games with Triple-A Buffalo that year, Brantly posted a solid .271/.390/.361 slash line with 1 home run and 16 RBIs. However, he was released by Toronto on July 13.
He briefly returned to the big leagues with the Rays in 2024, getting one hit in nine at-bats over three games.
The Blue Jays currently have three other catchers on their 40-man roster: Nick Fortes, Liam Hicks, and Augustin Ramirez. Fortes is the only one with major league experience, while Hicks is a Rule 5 pick. Still, with a strong showing in Spring Training, Brantly could earn a spot on the team.
For his career, Brantly owns a .222 batting average with 7 home runs and 37 RBIs in 137 games.
