MLB Insider Keegan Matheson has an astounding prediction on how Addison Barger can help the Toronto Blue Jays become a much better team going forward.
With one big, loud swing in the eighth inning Sunday, Barger turned a letdown loss into an 8-4 win and a series sweep of the A's. Finally, the Blue Jays have created some space between themselves and that magnetic .500 mark at 31-28.
Matheson joined Blake Murphy and Julia Kreuz on Sportsnet 590 The Fan to discuss how the 25-year old slugger is locked in as an everyday player.
"When you hit the ball as hard as anyone in the organization, and you can throw the ball harder than half the pitching staff, and you can run fast, and you're built like that, and it still hasn't come together in the big leagues its because a player hasn't put all those tools together yet. What we are seeing right now in Barger is what happens when it all comes to click."
Matheson went on to explain the difference between Davis Schneider's early success and Barger's recent offensive outburst.
"The next few pitching staffs are going to look at what Barger is doing to pitchers and they will adjust just like Davis Schneider incredible early success and then pitchers made a big adjustment. What gives me optimism with Barger though is long as he is keeping up mentally with those adjustments, his body will allow him to catch up. If he is pitched differently his bat will get there, I don't think he has those big gaping holes in his swing, its been more about the mental adjustments and putting it together and you are seeing is an incredible baseball player right now, like a game changing player."
