Out of the Tigers, Cubs, Blue Jays, Astros, and the Blue Jays, Passan feels that most other teams have reasons to not sign him.
The Tigers have former top prospect Jace Jung as well as Matt Vierling, while the Red Sox have Rafael Devers and Triston Casas, with two prospects waiting in the minor leagues.
Bregman's former club, the Astros signed Isaac Paredes to play third. It should be noted that Jose Altuve has said he is willing to move to left field so that either Paredes or Bregman can play second.
As for the Cubs, their top prospect Matt Shaw plays second and third.
Which brings us to the Blue Jays. Toronto currently has Ernie Clement set to open the season at the hot corner, with other players like Leo Jimenez, Will Wagner, and even Vladimir Guerrero Jr. potentially getting the odd day.
There is also Addison Barger and Orelvis Martinez.
Yet Passan feels the only that really prohibit a long-term Bregman deal would be the luxury tax. But, as the Blue Jays have shown, they are willing to go over that line.
He has connections to most of the teams as well. Tigers manager AJ Hinch was in charge in Houston, while Blue Jays skipper Alex Cora was the bench coach.
The Blue Jays, of course, have George Springer, who spent years playing with Bregman in Houston.
If Bregman were to come down off of a six or seven year contract, and opt for a shorter-team deal, then perhaps the Blue Jays sign him.
