MLB insider releases massive figure for Vladimir Guerrero Jr's Services

During a Bleacher Report stream on February 26th, Jon Heyman, baseball writer and insider for the New York Post, speculated that that number is at least $600MM.

Not only is this far ahead of Spoctrac's projection of Vladdy as a $38MM player, those who play first base, historically a offensive-first position with weak defence, generally don't receive that sort of contract, no matter how good they are.

As Heyman pointed out in the stream, $600MM for a first baseman is virtually unprecedented. While Vladdy can play some third, as we saw in Wednesday's game against the Pirates, according to Blue Jays insider Keegan Matheson, the team really only plans to utilize his versatility in the late innings.

Plus, since the Blue Jays don't have a true back-up 1B, the lineup is at it's strongest when Vladdy stays put at first.

Earlier in the offseason, Hall of Famer David Oritz - a close friend of Guerrero - has said that Vladdy was worth $585MM. With the length of the contract postulated between 12-15 years, that would put Vlad's worth at around $45MM. A $600MM would further increase the AAV.

Much of what Vladdy will earn will depend on his results during the upcoming season. Either way, he find team's hesitant to fork over his asking price.
