The New York Yankees are in agreement with former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk on a minor league contract.
Randal Grichuk has joined the enemy.
The outfielder, who suited up for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2018-2021 has signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees.
Jack Curry of Yes Network was first to report the news of the deal, which is worth $2.5MM if Grichuk makes the team.
Randal Grichuk had a .703 OPS and .273 OBP against LHP in 2025, so why did they sign him?
🔹Expected Stats vs LHP: .796 xOPS | .338 xwOBA ⚾️
🔹Damage Rates: 13.3% Barrel% | 92.5 Avg EV🚀
🔹Strong Bat Speed: 74.1 MPH Avg Bat Speed 🔥
Low-risk deal.

Grichuk's overall numbers in steady decline
The 34-year old from Rosenberg, Texas, will head to straight to Florida and join the team's Spring Training, as his deal - like many this time of year - included an invite to camp.
While Grichuk is coming off a down season, one which he split between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals, he fits the Yankees desire and need for right-handed platoon bat to complement Trent Grisham.
While Cody Bellinger is also a lefty, he hits LHP's very well and likely stays in the lineup against them. While most of Grichuk's defensive experience is in centre and right, he'd likely see the majority of his playing in left, mainly due to the presence of Aaron Judge. If Grisham sits, Bellinger likely slides over to centre.
Although he battled injuries, Grichuk's time with Toronto started off well, and he even inked a five year extension at the beginning of the 2019 season. However, a crowded outfield and the presence of George Springer meant that Grichuk became expendable and he was deal to the Colorado Rockies for Raimel Tapia and Adrian Pinto just prior to the 2022 season.
Although he's always had pop - Grichuk has hit at least 20 home runs five times in a season - he has never hit for average or on-base percentage and his overall numbers have been in decline for the last couple of seasons.
Still, if he can find his stroke, he can prove himself valuable to a team looking to round out their bench.
