Free agent shortstop Bo Bichette is telling teams he is willing to move to second base, MLB Network's Mark Feinsand reported on Wednesday.
Bichette played second base competently during all seven games of the World Series, marking his first time at the position at the major-league level.
Not considered a star defensive shortstop, a willingness to move position could help Bichette open more opportunities as he searches for his next contract.
Bichette ranked in the first percentile in range (minus-13) and 36th percentile in arm strength (82.3 m.p.h.), per Baseball Savant.
How does Bo Bichette's market change as a second baseman? Mark Feinsand expands on reports that the slugger is willing to make the position switch.
There are very few questions when it comes to Bichette's bat.
The 27-year-old hit .311 last season, placing second in MLB with 44 doubles and tying for second with 181 hits.
He missed much of the final month as well as the ALDS and ALCS with a knee injury, but returned for the Fall Classic, hitting .348 with one home run and six RBIs.
Bichette, an Orlando, Fla., native, has spent his entire seven-year career as a Blue Jay, and throughout the club's run to Game 7 of the World Series this year, he professed that he wanted to remain a Blue Jay.
But halfway through the offseason, with several other big names having fallen off the board, Bichette remains unsigned.
During a Monday appearance on MLB Network's «Hot Stove,» longtime Blue Jays color analyst Buck Martinez strongly hinted that Bichette's eventual decision would lead him back to Toronto.
