Adding to a busy Sunday around the league, the San Francisco Giants made a couple of minor moves to shore up their depth, signing infielder Buddy Kennedy and pitcher Caleb Kilian to minor league deals.

The #SFGiants have signed pitcher Caleb Kilian and infielder Buddy Kennedy to minor league deals, per the team's transaction log. Kilian was an 8th-round pick by the Giants in 2019 and shipped to the Cubs in the Kris Bryant trade. Kennedy has an .816 OPS across 8 MiLB seasons.
Kennedy spent time on three different major league rosters in 2025, but only appeared in 13 games.
He started the year in Philly and went 0-7 in four games before being designated for assignment. He was picked up by the Jays and went 1-5 with a walk in two games.
He once was again DFA and finished the season with the Dodgers.
While playing time looks to be scarce on a crowded Giants - who have also been connected to Ketel Marte - Kennedy's versatility at playing first, second, and third base, as well as some outfield might give him an outside shot at landing a bench role.
For Kilian, this signing is a return to the team that drafted him as an eighth round pick in 2019.
After a couple of seasons in San Francisco's system, he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs in 2021 as part of a package for Kris Bryant.
In parts of three seasons for the north siders, Kilian has gone 0-4 with a 9.22 ERA in eight games, including five starts.

Both players will likely get invites to spring training

Although it was not officially mentioned in either of their transactions, both Kennedy and Kilian will likely receive invites to Spring Training when players report to camp next month.
However, both will likely start the season in the minor leagues.
