It had been several years since the Toronto Blue Jays produced a standout performer in the Dominican Summer League, but shortstop prospect Juan Sanchez has quickly changed that narrative.
When MLB Pipeline released its updated 2026 Top 30 prospects ranking for the Toronto Blue Jays, several players saw their positions shift compared with the 2025 list.
The top five remained mostly unchanged, with only a minor swap between pitching prospects Johnny King and Ricky Tiedemann, who traded the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
One of the most notable risers in the Toronto Blue Jays system, however, was Juan Sanchez.
Known for his impressive raw power, the young infielder climbed 11 spots in the rankings, jumping from No. 18 in 2025 to No. 7 entering the 2026 season.
Such a leap highlights the confidence evaluators have in his potential despite his age.
Sanchez, who is just 18, has already earned a reputation as one of the most powerful hitters in the organization.

Blue Jays may have have drafted another future star from the Dominican Republic
The Dominican native signed with Toronto in January 2025 and made his professional debut that summer in the Dominican Summer League.
Playing for the Blue Jays' DSL Red squad at only 17 years old, Sanchez wasted little time making an impact.
Across 56 games, he delivered an outstanding offensive performance, posting a .341 batting average and a 1.004 OPS.
His stat line also included 47 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 40 RBIs and four stolen bases.
His strong season earned him All-Star recognition in the league and multiple Player of the Week honours.
That type of production immediately put Sanchez on the radar of prospect evaluators.
MLB.com analysts Jim Callis, Sam Dykstra and Jonathan Mayo have already predicted the teenager could break into MLB's Top 100 prospects during the 2026 season.
With a smooth, balanced right-handed swing and an advanced blend of plate discipline and power, Sanchez is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing young hitters in Toronto's system.
As he prepares to continue his development in the United States, the Blue Jays may have discovered a potential future star, but his long-term impact will ultimately be determined on the field.
