The Toronto Blue Jays have taken great pains to draft Canadian talent.
With Sam Shaw their efforts are finally paying off.
While the Toronto Blue Jays do have the Montreal-born Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on its roster, the last players raised in the country to put on a Blue Jays uni were pitchers Jordan Romano and Zach Pop.
The Victoria, BC native and product of Lambrick Park Secondary School was drafted by his boyhood team in the 9th round of the 2023 Amateur Draft.
An outfielder and second baseman, Shaw spent his first seasons in the organization in Rookie Ball, before finally making the leap to Single-A last year.
The 20 year old performed admirably in Low-A Dunedin, hitting seven home runs while having an impressive .383 OBP.

Versatility key to Shaw's success
He got a taste of High-A Vancouver before injuries prematurely ended his season.
In spite of his early demise in 2025, Shaw is right on track developmentally and is expected to start the season with Vancouver.
Him seeing action with Double-A New Hampshire by season's end is not out of the question.
His versatility is biggest asset and his most likely ticket to the major leagues.
Having the ability to fill in at second base as well as second base will only increase his value as a prospect.
While he could develop into a starter, a player of his profile is more aptly suited to a utility player type of roll. Regardless, Sam Shaw is a name that will be heard more and more in the coming years.
