Backup catcher Tyler Hieneman avoided arbitration with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.

According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, Heineman avoided arbitration signing a one-year contract with the Blue Jays.

Career year keeps Heineman - Kirk tandem together for 2026

Heineman had a career year in 2025, logging 2.1 fWAR after having never been worth a full win over replacement in any prior season.
Heineman proved to be strong insurance for starter Alejandro Kirk last season, slashing .289/.361/.416 and producing career highs of three home runs, 20 RBIs and a .289 batting average over 61 games.
He also had two steals and a 17.8 percent strikeout rate in 174 plate appearances.
