While it was originally thought that Toronto Blue Jays starter Alek Manoah would return in late august, he seems to be progressing ahead of schedule

After winning six of their last seven games at home, the Toronto Blue Jays open up a nine-game road trip on Friday, kicking off against the Minnesota Twins.
Despite some tough injury luck to start the season, Toronto (33-29) is holding up in the competitive AL East, currently 5.5 games back of the division-leading New York Yankees.
On Friday morning, the team revealed some good news on a pair of pitchers recovering from major injuries, as reported by The Athletic's Mitch Bannon.
Some good news for #BlueJays Tommy John rehabbers:

- 2022 1st Rnd pick Brandon Barriera is joining the FCL on a rehab assignment (hasn't pitched since April 2024)
- Alek Manoah is expected to face live hitters for the first time on Tuesday.
TOR's Alek Manoah will face live hitters on Tuesday for the first time since undergoing a hybrid internal brace procedure on his elbow last June.
MLB.com's Keegan Matheson joined First Up on TSN1050 on Friday Alek Manoah.
"This year I think we do [see Manoah pitch] guys," Matheson said.

"Right now he's throwing bullpens down in Florida. Pretty soon he'll start facing live hitters. Keep Aug. 1 as a very rough date in your mind," Matheson said.
"I think what this can look like is a couple of years back when Hyun-jin Ryu came back from Tommy John surgery - ironically he took Manoah's rotation spot down the stretch - he came back right around that same date, had 11 starts down the stretch, helped them make the playoffs. I think that can happen [here with Manoah]," said Matheson.

Manoah has experienced a roller coaster beginning to his MLB career after making the All-Star team and finishing third in AL Cy Young award voting in 2022.
The next season was not good to him or Toronto after posting a 5.87 ERA and 3-9 record over 19 starts and 87 1/3 innings.
However, he gave fans a glimmer of hope to start last season with a 3.70 ERA in five starts before his elbow injury sidelined him long term.
"It's been a while since Manoah was an effective MLB starter, but we all know he would lean right into that narrative, and I think he could be the guy to do it," Matheson said.

When Alek Manoah comes back, do you think he will be an effective fifth starter for the Blue Jays down the stretch?
