Daulton Varsho (hamstring) felt hamstring tightness while running bases Monday. Blue Jays backing him off from running for now, but he's still facing live pitching & taking fly balls. Club will monitor his recovery in coming days before continuing ramp up to minor-league games.
Varsho has been facing live pitching and taking ground balls, and will continue to do some in the wake of Monday's setback, but will stop running for now.
Toronto will monitor his recovery in the coming days before resuming his ramp-up to a rehab assignment.
After a delayed start to his 2025 season, Varsho gave the Blue Jays a spark with his return, smacking eight home runs in 24 games and providing his Gold Glove-calibre defence in the outfield.
Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling passed on a handful of other updates on rehabbing Blue Jays.
Alek Manoah threw 25 pitches over one inning of live batting practice on Tuesday as he builds back up after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year.
"It went really well," says Blue Jays manager John Schneider. "Velo was up to 95. Best he's felt in a while."
Next step in Manoah's build up will be a multiple-inning live BP.
Ryan Burr, meanwhile, is scheduled to pitch for triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, his third rehab appearance since restarting his assignment following a setback. On Saturday, he struck out two in a clean inning of work for the Bisons.
Finally,
Yimi Garcia will pitch again for single-A Dunedin on Thursday. He began his rehab assignment with a scoreless inning for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays on Monday.
Schneider told reporters that if all goes well in that outing, Garcia will make the jump to triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
