There’s some unfortunate news coming out of the Toronto Blue Jays farm system, as pitching prospect Micah Bucknam has been placed on the full-season injured list.

While several Toronto Blue Jays prospects, including JoJo Parker (No. 2) are preparing to make their professional debuts on Thursday, Micah Bucknam (ranked as the Blue Jays No. 18 prospect), was added to the full-season IL according to the FCL Blue Jays’ official roster log.
Originally selected by Toronto in the 16th round, Bucknam opted not to sign and instead chose to attend Louisiana State University before later transferring to Dallas Baptist University.
The Blue Jays remained interested and selected him again in 2025, this time in the fourth round, signing him to a $678,300 bonus.

Bucknam was considered one of the top Canadian talents in the 2021 MLB Draft

Since rejoining the organization, Bucknam has been viewed as one of the more intriguing long-term development projects, particularly given the club’s recent success in developing pitching talent.
On the mound, his arsenal is highlighted by a sharp slider that typically sits between 85–88 mph but can reach up to 91 mph, featuring high spin rates and serving as a true swing-and-miss pitch.
Micah Bucknam has one of the best sliders in the country and it's going to get him selected healthy in the Draft.
He also mixes in a low-80s curveball with significant depth that has proven nearly as effective.
His fastball, which generally sits around 94–95 mph, stands out more for its velocity than for movement or bat-missing ability.
Unfortunately, this setback means Bucknam is now expected to delay his professional debut until at least the 2027 season.
Details surrounding the injury have not been disclosed, but pitching injuries have become a growing concern throughout the Blue Jays organization, impacting both the major league roster and the minor league system.
Currently, four of Toronto’s eight starting pitchers are on the injured list, and several minor league arms have also begun the season sidelined.
Among them is top prospect Ricky Tiedemann, who opened the 2026 season on the IL.
He is joined by Ryan Jennings and Travis Kuhn on the 7-day injured list. Additionally, Chay Yeager underwent Tommy John surgery prior to Spring Training and will spend the season on the full-season IL.
