Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez poised to have a bounce back season in 2026.

New Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez arrived at spring training Saturday morning, taking part in drills and getting his first look at the organization’s Player Development Complex.
The 28-year-old joins Toronto with a chance to reset after an up-and-down 2025 season.

Sánchez originally signed with the Tampa Bay Rays as an international free agent in 2014 before being traded to the Miami Marlins ahead of the 2019 deadline.
After debuting in 2020, he began establishing himself in 2021, hitting 14 home runs in just 251 plate appearances while posting a strong .251/.319/.489 slash line and a 111 wRC+.
His numbers dipped in 2022 (88 wRC+) but rebounded in 2023, when he hit 14 home runs with a 108 wRC+. In 2024, Sánchez delivered a career-best 18 homers over 537 plate appearances, finishing with a 101 wRC+ — steady, league-average production with pop.
Before the 2025 trade deadline, Miami dealt him to the Houston Astros, where his bat cooled.
Sánchez slashed .199/.269/.342 with four home runs in 160 plate appearances down the stretch, dragging his overall season mark to a 93 wRC+.
With $6.8 million owed in 2026, Houston flipped Sanchez to Toronto in exchange for Joey Loperfido.

Despite the inconsistency, Sánchez brings intriguing tools.

He has been a reliable source of double-digit home runs and solid corner-outfield defense.
Over 3,360.2 career innings in left and right field, he has posted 16 Defensive Runs Saved along with positive Outs Above Average and Fielding Run Value metrics.
With Addison Barger projected to see time in right field, Sánchez could get an extended opportunity in left.
Offensively, the underlying data stands out. Sánchez’s bat speed ranked in the 93rd percentile last season at 75.9 mph, and he paired it with a 91.3 mph average exit velocity.
Jesus Sanchez is bound to improve in 2026

His 2025 results didn't reflect the strides of growth he made:

- Cut his Whiff Rate by 5.3%
- Dropped K-Rate by 4%
- Added 0.7 MPH of Bat Speed
- Increased Pull% and Flyball%

His .395 SLG heavily underperformed his .441 Expected SLG
The year prior, he recorded a 51.3% hard-hit rate and a 92.5 mph average exit velocity. When he connects, the ball jumps.
The glaring weakness remains his struggles against left-handed pitching. For his career, Sánchez has slashed just .181/.231/.289 against southpaws, which likely limits him to a platoon role.
Still, projection models forecast 13–18 home runs in 2026, right in line with his career norms.
With elite bat speed and a fresh opportunity under hitting coach David Popkins, Sánchez has the tools to break out in Toronto this season.
