The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Alejandro Kirk on 10-Day IL following a thumb injury he suffered in the 10th inning, in a 5-4 walk off loss to the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

According to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson, the Toronto Blue Jays have placed Alejandro Kirk on the 10-Day IL, and called up Brandon Valenzuela up from Triple-Buffalo to back up Tyler Heineman.

Brandon Valenzuela steps in for Alejandro Kirk as a plus defender with an above-average arm, rated the most MLB‑ready catching prospect in the Blue Jays system.
His spring ‘26 performance drew raves as he got extended reps with Kirk away at the WBC, was regularly catching MLB arms, getting ABS challenge reps, and showing defensive polish.
Ross Atkins publicly praised his offensive progress during spring, and he was reportedly the standout Jays prospect in camp.
A defense-first MLB ready catcher with strong arm and some right-handed pop.

Valenzuela was acquired from the San Diego Padres in July of 2025 in exchange for infielder Will Wagner. He has yet to make his big league debut, but will most likely see action soon.
