Just a few years ago, Leo Jiménez was regarded as one of the Toronto Blue Jays' top prospects.

The Panamanian infielder was ranked No. 5 in the organization by MLB Pipeline, highlighting his potential as a key part of the club's future.
In 2023, while still at the Double-A level, the Blue Jays reportedly turned away trade interest in Jimenez at the deadline, according to the Toronto Star.
Now, however, his future with the team appears uncertain.
Last week, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com projected that Jiménez could be designated for assignment by Opening Day, when Toronto hosts the Oakland Athletics on March 27 at Rogers Centre.
Leo Jiménez is back in # Blue Jays camp now after playing in the WBC with Panama. Big 10 days ahead for him and he'll see plenty of game action. He's out of options and very much on the roster bubble.

Jimenez in tough with Clement and Schneider in the mix

Jiménez briefly stepped away from spring training to represent Panama national baseball team in the World Baseball Classic.
Panama, however, struggled in pool play, finishing with a 1-3 record and failing to advance.
Before leaving, Jiménez had started spring training 4-for-13 at the plate.
He then went hitless in five at-bats while serving in a backup infield role during the tournament.
Upon returning to Dunedin, he found himself in the middle of a crowded and highly competitive battle for a middle-infield spot.
If Jiménez is unable to secure a place on the major-league roster, the Blue Jays may be forced to designate him for assignment.
According to Matheson, the outlook is not particularly encouraging.
He projects that Ernie Clement, a standout during the 2025 postseason, will claim the starting second base job, while the defensively strong but light-hitting Andrés Giménez is expected to handle duties at shortstop.
