No prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization had a breakout season like Juan Sanchez in 2025.

After entering the year unranked, Juan Sanchez vaulted into the organization’s top 10 prospects following a dominant season in the Dominican Summer League.
The breakout came just months after the Toronto Blue Jays signed the 6-foot-3, 180-pound shortstop during the 2025 International Free Agency period for a $997,500 bonus.
Like most international signees, Sanchez remained in his home country to begin his professional career, spending the season in the DSL — a rookie-level league designed to introduce young prospects from around the world to pro ball.
While many players spend multiple seasons there, Sanchez ensured his time in the Dominican would be brief.
In his lone DSL campaign, the 17-year-old was electric. Playing for the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays, Sanchez slashed .341/.439/.565 across 253 plate appearances, posting a scorching 1.004 OPS.
He collected eight home runs, 16 doubles, and four triples, consistently showing impact power to all fields.
His plate discipline stood out as well. Sanchez struck out at a manageable 17.4% rate while walking 10.3% of the time, finishing the season with an impressive 156 wRC+.

Juan Sanchez is the power hitter this farm system was starving for

Offensively, Sanchez profiles as a pull-heavy hitter, with 55.8% of his balls in play going to the pull side.
He also avoided excessive ground balls, posting a 36.8% groundball rate, while elevating the ball frequently with a 44.8% flyball percentage — a promising indicator for sustained power production.
That combination of performance and underlying metrics caught national attention.
Baseball America named Sanchez one of the top hitters to watch as he’s expected to come stateside in 2026.
Juan Sanchez has massive power. The Blue Jays prospect could slug his way into the Top 100 with an excellent stateside debut 💪

Writer Jesús Cano noted that while Sanchez currently plays shortstop, his size and physical projection could eventually make him a strong candidate for third base.
Defensively, Sanchez’s standout tool is his arm, which grades as a 60 and plays comfortably at both shortstop and third base.
Given his 6-foot-3 frame, a future move to the hot corner appears increasingly likely, where his 55-grade power would profile well.
Now 18 years old, Sanchez is expected to open the 2026 season with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays.
If his development continues on its current trajectory, a midseason promotion to Single-A would be well within reach.
