The Toronto Blue Jays are pursuing free agent Japanese slugger Kazuma Okamoto.

Kazuma Okamoto's posting window closes on Sunday at 5 p.m., and according to a report from Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Blue Jays are among the teams interested in signing the Japanese slugger.
As Will Sammon notes here, the Blue Jays are among the teams interested in Kazuma Okamoto, who will likely sign sign in the next 24 hours.

The 6x NPB All Star could contribute for the Jays while moving around 3B/1B/OF:

Okamoto's versatility a good fit for the Blue Jays

Sammon added that while Okamoto is primarily seen as a corner infielder - where he played exclusively last season for the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) - his ability to play left field makes him a better fit in Toronto.
Okamoto played 15 games in the outfield in 2024.
The 29-year-old utility player missed nearly half of the 2025 season due to an elbow injury, but had a .327 average and 1.014 OPS to go along with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs in 77 games.
The Yomiuri Giants will receive a fee from whichever MLB club signs Okamoto through the posting system.
Japanese 1B/3B Kazuma Okamoto's posting window will close on Sunday at 5 pm ET. The 29-year-old right-handed batter has slugged 248 homers, slashed .277/.361/.521 over 11 NPB seasons, and is a 6-time All-Star.
The Giants will get 20 per cent of the first $25 million of his contract, 17.5 per cent of the next $25 million and 15 per cent of any amount above $50 million.

Okamoto crushed over 30 home runs for six consecutive NPB seasons between 2018 and 2023.

For no reason whatsoever here's a clip of Kazuma Okamoto taking a 99 MPH heater from Roki Sasaki and drilling it for a grand slam
And while the Blue Jays remain "in the mix" for the top MLB position players on the market, including being "the favourite to land (Kyle) Tucker," according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, signing Okamoto is unlikely to limit them from landing a big fish.
Their pursuits of Kyle Tucker and longtime Blue Jay Bo Bichette are being viewed as unique opportunities, allowing them to stretch beyond their current budget.
