The Toronto Blue Jays provided an injury update on Cody Ponce's right knee injury on Tuesday.
As you've probably already heard, Toronto Blue Jays starter Cody Ponce hurt his right knee, leaving his season debut on a cart in the third inning of last night's 14-5 drubbing at the hands of the Colorado Rockies.
The last we heard from Blue Jays manager John Schneider, Ponce was going for an MRI on his right knee after he told the training staff that he felt like he hyperextended it.
Late last night, Spanish MLB insider Francys Romero reported that the Blue Jays are recalling right-handed pitcher Lazaro Estrada from Triple-A Buffalo.
John Schneider reveals MRI results
Today manager John Schneider told MLB.com's Keegan Matheson, that Cody Ponce’s diagnosis right now is a right ACL sprain. More doctors are reviewing the MRI now to see if there’s a full tear for the final diagnosis.

Schneider says the #BlueJays are “holding onto” hope he can pitch again this year, but will miss significant time regardless.

Schneider indicated the Blue Jays won't be bumping any starters out of their scheduled spots this next turn through, even with the off day.
Lazaro Estrada and Adam Macko are options. John Schneider also mentioned CJ Van Eyk and Chad Dallas.
The 31-year-old was making his first big league start since 2021. Ponce pitched three seasons in Japan and had a dominant ’25 season with the Hanwha Eagles in Korea.
He leveraged the numbers and improved stuff into a three-year, $30MM free agent deal with Toronto.
Ponce had fanned three hitters across 2 1/3 innings of one-run ball before the injury.
Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Max Scherzer and swingman Eric Lauer are penciled into the rotation.
Toronto has off days on April 3rd, 9th, and 14th. They could get by using a four-man rotation and just one bullpen game into the middle of April.
They’d probably prefer to stay on a five-man starting staff and take advantage of the extra days of rest early in the season.
