The Toronto Blue Jays pitching depth just took a hit.
Nate LaRue, a 24-year old pitching prospect who spent most of 2025 with the Dunedin Blue Jays before being moved up to the Vancouver Canadians, has apparently retired.
The news was posted on the official transaction log for the Canadians.
More specifically, LaRue is listed as being on the voluntarily retired list.
An alumnus of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Alabama, the 24 year old was originally by the Blue Jays in 25th round of the 2019 Amateur Draft.
He chose not to sign and instead attended Auburn University.

The Blue Jays then signed him as a minor league free agent in 2023.
LaRue was originally drafted as and began his professional career as a catcher.
After spending college and two years in the minors behind the plate, he announced that he was moving to the mound prior to the start of the 2025 minor league season.
LaRue is not the first Blue Jays prospect to make the switch from catcher to pitcher. Former top prospect Hagen Danner also made a similar move several years back.
Unclear why LaRue entered voluntary retirement
So far, it is unclear why LaRue has walked away from the game. The fact that he is listed as "voluntarily retired" suggests that there are potentially other factors at play. Neither the Canadians, the Blue Jays, nor LaRue have offered up any comment.
In his lone season as a pitcher, LaRue went 3-2 with a 5.20 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 35.2 innings, while appearing in 27 games.
